Midwifery is a profession that provides healthcare during all stages of pregnancy, birth and post partum. They provide a variety of services including family planning, menopause care, gynaecological examination and well-women care. Midwives practice in the home, community, hospitals and clinics. They work closely with Obstetricians and are trained in the deviations from normal pregnancy to assist with many conditions that arise.

After completion of undergraduate study a midwife will complete postgraduate training with the Nursing and Midwifery Council to achieve registration specialising in all aspects of midwifery.

The most common reasons for consultation with a midwife include all common conditions concerning pregnancy, childbirth and the post partum stages and also monitoring, gynaecological problems, menopause advice and relief.
